How Can CPM and Last Planner System® Co-exist? (L.A./Orange County CoP)
CPM Scheduling is currently the industry standard for planning projects, communication with stakeholders and determining delay claims. Along comes the Last Planner System® which incorporates those doing the work, aka “the last planners” and focuses on removing roadblocks and creating flow on the project. How do projects use both systems at the same time? The complete and final CPM, known as the Baseline, is required usually very early in the project, normally within 30 days of NTP. This time frame is usually unrealistic to have the actual foreman from all trades performing the work involved in the detailed planning of the project. This presentation will discuss the strengths and weakness of both approaches and how each of them can complement each other to deliver a successful project.

The Construction Industry is full of time destroying, money eating, flow demolishing waste. My passion is working with construction teams to eliminate waste and increase value for both the client and the project.
I have over 27 years of construction project scheduling experience, both as a project scheduler and leading a department. My lean journey started in 2011 and I can never go back to continuing to do work just because that's the way we've always done it.
I am a Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP), a Certified Scrum Master, and a Lean Construction Institute (LCI) Instructor for Introduction to Last Planner. I am also the AACE Southern California 2022 President.
