LEAN PRACTICE IN CANADA – Value defined by the owner (Arizona CoP)

Three projects will be discussed – one presented by an architecture representative, another by an owners representative and one by a Contractor representative – each will discuss the lean tools and practices that have been effective on these projects and why lean has been implemented.

Speakers:

• Carla Ciepliski - Colliers Project Leaders
  Carla is a Lean and IPD advisor and coach who happens to be an industrial engineer working in the construction industry. She started her career in Procter & Gamble at a time when they were practicing an integrated work system and high performing team approach to what is now named ‘Lean’, using the Toyota business system as motivation (meaning holistically and beyond the production line).  After working abroad, Carla returned to Western Canada and built Ternion Results as a successful 15 year consulting practice that supports a diverse range of organizations across private, public, and not-for-profits. In November 2021, Carla joined Colliers Project Leaders to work with the owners community and continues to support IPD teams broadly in growing and developing use of Lean and IPD in Canada. She is currently directly coaching a number of IPD and Alliance model projects as well as advancing the development of the owners community in IPD organizational readiness while still coaching public sector Owners in advancing their internal Lean objectives. Carla is a foundational player and ongoing active part of the Lean Community of Practice in Calgary and is the founding chair for the newly formed Lean Design & Construction Canada (LDCC) national body and supports numerous training and speaking events.  
• Dominic Desmarais - Graham Construction
  Starting in manufacturing, Dominic learned the Lean practice and has seen the benefits is his work and personal life. He currently works at Graham Construction.
• Allie Grande - Group2 Architecture
  As principal of the Calgary office, Allie currently works on a wide variety of projects with a focus on IPD delivery projects.
